Introduction
Gabawin 75 Tablet is a medicine used to treat epilepsy, anxiety, and nerve pain. It is also used to treat a condition called as fibromyalgia which is characterized by widespread muscle pain and stiffness.
You can take Gabawin 75 Tablet with or without food. If you have epilepsy you may be taking it for many years. If you have nerve pain or anxiety the treatment may be shorter. The dose and duration of treatment depends on what you are taking it for and will be adjusted for you and your condition, probably starting at a low dose and working up to one which suits you. Follow your doctor’s instructions. Take this medicine at the same time each day to get the most benefit. It takes at least a few weeks for the medicine to work. Continue taking it until your doctor tells you to stop. If you have epilepsy, missing doses or stopping this medicine suddenly may trigger a seizure/fit. You should avoid drinking alcohol as it may increase some side effects.
The side effects of this medicine are usually mild and go away by themselves. The most common ones are feeling sleepy and feeling dizzy. Other side effects include an increased appetite, weight gain, difficulty concentrating, mood changes, blurred vision, confusion, and swelling in your hands and feet. Most side effects are not serious and do not need medical attention. Talk to your doctor about potential side effects and ways you might prevent or cope with them.
Before taking the medicine you should tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Q. What is Gabawin and what is it used for?
Gabawin belongs to anticonvulsants class of medicines. It is used to treat seizures. It is also helpful in treating nerve pain (neuropathic pain) which could be due to diabetes, shingles, or injury. It is also used in fibromyalgia (a long-lasting condition that may cause pain, muscle stiffness and tenderness, tiredness, and difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep). In some cases, your doctor may prescribe this medicine for the treatment of anxiety.
Q. Gabawin has varied roles, does it work in the same way for each disease?
No, Gabawin works in different ways for different diseases. In epilepsy, it stops seizures by reducing the abnormal electrical activity in the brain. In chronic pain, it blocks pain messages travelling from brain to spine.
Q. I have been prescribed Gabawin for pain due to shingles. When can I expect relief from pain?
Gabawin may require a few weeks to see full benefits. However, people have felt relief from pain after a week of starting Gabawin.
Q. How long do I need to take Gabawin?
Duration for the use of Gabawin depends on the condition for which you are taking this medicine. If you are taking it for epilepsy, which if controlled by Gabawin, you may have to continue it for years. If you are taking it for pain (neuropathic and fibromyalgia pain), it is likely that once your symptoms have gone you will have to continue taking it for several months to ensure stopping the problem from coming back. It is advised to not stop before consulting your doctor.
Q. Is it necessary to continue taking Gabawin even if I feel fine?
Even if you feel fine, you should not stop Gabawin. If you are taking it for epilepsy and suddenly stop its consumption, you may have seizures that will not stop. Stopping it suddenly may result in withdrawal symptoms and you may experience anxiety, difficulty in sleeping, feeling sick, pain, and sweating. These can be prevented if dose of Gabawin is reduced gradually.
Q. Is Gabawin addictive?
Addiction to Gabawin is more common in people who take it for unauthorized reasons. Taking more than the recommended doses and for long periods of time may also cause addiction. In addition to that, any person who has a history of drug abuse should never use Gabawin. In case you feel you are becoming physically dependent on Gabawin, inform your doctor immediately.
Q. Can I take diazepam and Gabawin together?
Yes, Gabawin and diazepam can be used together but there might be a chance of increased side effects, since both act on the brain to depress excessive activity.
Q. Can Gabawin and gabapentin be taken together for fibromyalgia?
Yes, they can be used together but chances of side effects may be higher with their combined use.
