How Xofex Syrup works

Xofex Syrup is a combination of two medicines: Cefpodoxime and Clavulanic Acid. Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Cefpodoxime against bacteria.

Kidney

Q. What is Xofex?
Xofex is a combination of two medicines: Cefpodoxime and Clavulanic acid. This medication is used to treat bacterial infection. This medication works by killing the harmful bacteria that cause infection.
Q. Can the use of Xofex cause any serious side effects?
Xofex may cause serious side effects in very few patients (less than 1 in 1,000). Inform the doctor straight away if you get bloody diarrhoea, yellowing of the eyes and skin, bruising or skin discolouration, shortness of breath, wide spread rash, skin peeling, fever. All of these reaction needs urgent medical attention.
Q. Can I stop taking Xofex when my symptoms are relieved?
No, do not stop taking Xofex and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared.
Q. Can the use of Xofex cause diarrhea?
Yes, the use of Xofex can cause diarrhea. Antibiotics can kill good, or helpful, bacteria in your stoamch or intestine and cause diarrhea. In case, you experience diarrhea, drink plenty of water or other fluids. Talk to your doctor if you have persistent diarrhea and any signs of dehydration like less urination with dark coloured and strong-smelling urine. Do not take any other medicines without consulting a doctor.
Q. Can Xofex cause allergic reaction?
Yes, Xofex can cause allergic reaction and is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to a group of antibiotic called Cephalosporins. Get emergency medical help if you have any of the signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat

The use of Xofex is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to penicillins or any other excipient. This medicine should not be used in patients with previous history of liver damage associated with Xofex.
Q. Can I take oral contraceptive pills while taking Xofex?
No, Xofex can make birth control pills less effective. Ask your doctor about using a non-hormone method of birth control (such as a condom, diaphragm, spermicide) to prevent pregnancy while taking Xofex.
Q. Can I take a higher dose of this medicine than recommended?
No, taking higher than recommended dose of Xofex can lead to increased side effects. Xofex takes time to show its full effect and treat your infection. If you are experiencing increased severity of your symptoms, please consult your doctor for re-evaluation.
