Wellmod 100mg Tablet

Overview

Introduction

Wellmod 100mg Tablet is a prescription medicine used in the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness (narcolepsy). It improves wakefulness and helps you to stay awake and reduces the tendency to fall asleep during the day, thus restoring the normal sleep cycle.

Wellmod 100mg Tablet may be taken with or without food. It is advised to take this medicine at a fixed time each day to maintain a consistent level in the blood. If you miss any doses, take it as soon as you remember. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. It is important that this medication is not stopped suddenly as it may worsen your symptoms.

Some common side effects of this medicine include headache, nausea, nervousness, anxiety, and insomnia (difficulty sleeping). You may also have diarrhea, indigestion, back pain, and a runny nose. However, these side effects are temporary and usually resolve on their own in some time. Please consult your doctor if these do not subside or bother you. This medicine causes dizziness and sleepiness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you.

Always remember that this medicine only used when advised by a doctor as it is not a replacement for a good sleep routine. You should try to get the right amount of sleep every night. Before taking Wellmod 100mg Tablet, inform your doctor if you have any problems with your kidneys, heart, liver, or have a history of seizures (epilepsy or fits). Inform your doctor if you develop any unusual changes in mood or behavior, new or worsening depression, or if you have any suicidal thoughts.

How to cope with side effects?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Headache
Make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Rest in a quiet, dimly lit room. Do not sleep more than you normally would. Do not strain your eyes (for example by looking at a screen). Do not drink alcohol. Headaches are usually temporary and usually go away with time. But, if they last longer or get worse, ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller.
  • Coping with Nausea
You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop from feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.
  • Coping with Nervousness and Anxiety
This often disappears when the condition you are being treated for is managed. You could ask your doctor about changing the dose of your medicine or alternatives if it is affecting your daily life or causing you distress. Psychological treatments may be available. Some things you can do to help yourself include stopping smoking, cutting down the amount of alcohol and caffeine you drink, and doing regular exercise. You should also eat a healthy diet and find out how to get sleep if you are having trouble. Try talking to a friend or family member. Calming breathing exercises and other relaxation techniques may also help.
  • Coping with Dizziness
This is usually short-lived and should go away within a few days. If this happens, stop what you are doing and sit or lie down until you feel better. Lying still in a dark, quiet room may help reduce the spinning feeling. Sleep with your head slightly raised on two or more pillows. Get up slowly from a lying or sitting position. Get plenty of rest and try to relax as being anxious can make it worse. Try taking this medicine at bedtime to reduce the symptoms. Drinking plenty of water and ginger tea may also help. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and smoking as it will make you feel worse. Avoid driving or using tools or machinery until you feel better.
  • Coping with Indigestion
Try taking your medicine with a meal or snack, or shortly after eating. It might help to eat smaller and more frequent meals, and to eat and drink slowly. Avoid foods which can irritate your stomach such as carbonated soft drinks, caffeine, fatty and spicy foods, mints and citrus fruits. Quit smoking and alcohol because they increase the symptoms. Do not eat for 3 or 4 hours before going to bed. Try raising the head of your bed at night or use extra pillows. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about medicines that may help, such as antacids, if your condition does not improve.
  • Coping with Diarrhea
Keep up your intake of fluids and electrolytes (sugars and salts) to avoid getting dehydrated. Eat less fiber (avoid raw fruits, fruit juice and vegetables). Talk to your doctor about possible medication to manage diarrhea. Ask about reducing the dosage of your drug or other suitable treatments.
  • Coping with Back pain
Stay as active as possible and try to continue your daily activities. Do not rest for long periods. Try exercises and stretches specifically designed for back pain. Walking, swimming, yoga and pilates may also be helpful. Taking baths with salt water after exercise may also reduce the pain. Hot or cold compression packs and gentle back massage can give short-term relief. Take anti-inflammatory painkillers if you need to. Back pain normally gets better on its own but if it is severe or lasts more than a couple of weeks, you should see a doctor.

Patient Concerns

Main problem : I keep feeling too sleepy throughout the day. I have so many things to do related to my career, family and social life but this problem has been consuming most of my quality time, brings down my energy making me too less productive. I have been reading about this thing over Internet and what I can figure out myself is that my problem seems to be too close to Narcolepsy.
Dr. Jyoti Kapoor Madan
Psychiatry
Narcolepsy is sudden uncontrollable bout of sleepiness. Often sleep problems are due to poor quality of night time sleep. You may go for a sleep study or polysomnography to identify sleep related issues and tackle the problem easily.
palpitation tachycardia hypertension loud snoring daytime sleepiness
Dr. Jyoti Kapoor Madan
Psychiatry
Anxiety is the result of a hyperarousal state of nervous system due to a low threshold for threat perception. In simpler words, it's an ongoing flight or fight response. It can elicit a neuro-hormonal response understood as Flight or Fright reaction kicking in physiological cascade of symptoms ranging from palpitations, tachycardia, breathlessness, increased bowel movement, increase frequency of urination, dizziness, muscle tension or pain, trembling, dizziness, blurring of vision to restlessness, confusion and fainting spells. Chronic stress causes prolonged anxiety response with the consequences of slowed cognition , lack of concentration, headaches, fluctuations in blood pressure, irritable bowel syndrome with persistent Bowel movement issues and increased wear and tear of body tissues. Identifying your stressors, learning to deal with them, de stressing regularly by doing something that makes one feel good, yoga and meditation are some non pharmacological strategies to deal with it. If the condition is persisting for a long time, it's better to see a psychiatrist.

Q. Can taking Wellmod affect my sleep?

Wellmod is used to treat excessive sleepiness caused by narcolepsy (a condition that causes excessive daytime sleepiness). However, one of the common side effects of Wellmod is trouble falling asleep, though it does not occur in everyone. Consult your doctor if you face any issues with sleep.

Q. Is Wellmod more effective than amphetamine?

Yes, Wellmod is more effective than amphetamine. It not only helps to treat excessive sleepiness caused by narcolepsy (a condition that causes excessive daytime sleepiness) but also improves task performance. On comparing, it shows less association with side effects such as excess locomotor activities, anxiety, jitteriness, or rebound effects, which are seen with amphetamine.

Q. How does Wellmod affects mood?

Wellmod has a mood enhancing and mood-brightening effect. It has been tried in patients with depression.

Q. How to take Wellmod? Can I take it with food?

Wellmod should be taken strictly as advised by the doctor. It can be taken with or without food. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water.

Q. Can I stop taking Wellmod on my own?

No, do not stop taking Wellmod on your own without consulting your doctor. Sudden discontinuation of medicine may reduce the effect and with this your sleepiness may also return. Continue taking this medicine for the time recommended by your doctor, except when you experience serious side effects.

Q. Can I take Wellmod for long-term use?

It is usually not recommended for long-term use. Studies have shown that long-term use of Wellmod can damage the memory. It also has abuse potential. In addition, its prolonged use can induce stress response (especially if you are misusing and not getting good enough sleep and remaining wakeful for consecutive days). It can also affect your immunity which may make you prone to infection.
