Questions Related to Turbovas

Now a days we are receiving some alert with regard to taking vastatin tablet leads to diabetic. In my case, I used to take atorvastatin for very long period say for the last 15 years or so for my high level of colostrol particularly the increased levels in Triclisaride (400 to 500).My Doctor prescribed first Nialip which gave me some alergic, itching etc. Then my Dr. prescribed Lipigard/ Lipikind 5 mg to 10 mg. Now I am taking Turbovas-F daily. My colostrol level remains the same. For about a year ago when examined my blood, in fasting for blood sugar it shows 130 . This is the first time In my 75 years of age I found the elevated level of fasting sugar. Normally I used to examine my blood periodically and I never found such an elevated level of blood sugar. Now my Doctor advised me to take voglinorm .3 mg twice a day. Founding blood sugar in fasting is not a good sign and that you have to take this medicine. Accordingly I am following it up regularly. My question is, as said by some ( U.S) papers that the cause of my blood sugar (fasting) is taken of Vastatin tablet for a long period. Another question, that now a days it is stated that there is no good colostrol or bad colostrol and that the high level of colostrol indicates that the liver is functioning normally. Please elucidate. Thanking you, Yours faithfully, P.G.Vijairengam 9XXXXXX

Standard guidelines on cholesterol have not changed as yet, it is advisable to take statins in case of dyslipidemia. Diabetes is caused by a combination of risk factors like genetics, environment, ethnicity , age, weight etc. to blam lipid lowering drugs as a cause of diabetes would not be correct.

Frequently asked questions about Turbovas Tablet

Frequently asked questions about Rosuvastatin
Q. What should I know about high cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a type of fat present in your blood. Your total cholesterol is made up of LDL and HDL cholesterol. LDL cholesterol is called “bad” cholesterol as it can build up in the wall of your blood vessels and slow or obstruct blood flow to your heart, brain, and other organs. This can cause heart diseases and stroke. HDL cholesterol is called “good” cholesterol as it prevents the bad cholesterol from building up in the blood vessels. Triglycerides also are harmful fats found in your blood.
Q. Can I take Turbovas with grapefruit juice?
Yes, Turbovas can be taken with grapefruit juice. No drug-drug interactions or any harmful effects have been reported when they are used together.
Q. Can I take Turbovas with clopidogrel?
Turbovas can be taken along with clopidogrel. Turbovas does not interfere with the antiplatelet action of clopidogrel. However, a high dose of clopidogrel can increase the Turbovas blood concentration by 2-fold causing more chances of the side effects, so a dose adjustment for Turbovas may be needed.
Q. Why should Turbovas be taken at night?
Turbovas acts by blocking an enzyme which is important for cholesterol synthesis in our body. The activity of this enzyme is more at night time, so, it is advisable to take Turbovas in the evening hours after a meal or just before going to bed to have maximum effect. However, Turbovas being a longer acting statin can be taken at any time of day.
Q. Can I take Turbovas with pantoprazole?
Yes, Turbovas can be used along with pantoprazole. No drug-drug interactions or any harmful effects have been reported when they are used together.
Q. Is it safe to take Turbovas with gemfibrozil?
Concomitant use of Turbovas with gemfibrozil should be avoided. Gemfibrozil can increase the blood levels of Turbovas and damage your muscles. If you are taking both the drugs, be careful and look for any muscle symptoms. Inform your doctor if you have muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness or dark colored urine.
Q. What is the benefit of taking Turbovas with ezetimibe?
Turbovas, when used with ezetimibe, helps in a better decrease in LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels compared to Turbovas alone and without any increase in side effects. This combination is very beneficial in high-risk cardiovascular disease patients as its use can decrease the risk of atherosclerotic plaque rupture and heart attack. However, ezetimibe can increase the blood levels of Turbovas, so a dose adjustment may be needed when they are used together.
Q. Can I take calcium supplements with Turbovas?
Turbovas should not be taken with calcium supplements as calcium can decrease its absorption and hence lowers the blood levels of Turbovas. This can lead to a decrease in efficacy of Turbovas to lower blood cholesterol levels. To avoid this effect, there should be a gap of at least 2 hours between the two medicines.
Q. Is Turbovas a narcotic substance?
No, Turbovas is not a narcotic substance. It's a prescription medicine and is available on providing a valid prescription by a doctor.
