Triamaderm Ointment

Overview

Introduction

Triamaderm Ointment is a type of medicine known as a topical steroid. It is used to treat certain skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis and rash. It helps reduce symptoms like swelling, itching and redness.

You should always use Triamaderm Ointment exactly as your doctor has told you. It is only for use on the skin but do not use the cream or ointment on your face for more than recommended. Do not cover the area you have treated with a bandage or plaster unless your doctor tells you to. You should use this medicine regularly but do not apply large amounts or use it for longer than prescribed. It should be spread thinly. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve after 2 weeks of treatment.

Triamaderm Ointment has a few potential side effects but not everyone will get them. These may include allergic skin reactions, bacterial skin infections, acne, thinning or a change in colour of the skin, burning, stinging and itching. Serious allergic reaction to this drug are rare but let your doctor know if you are bothered by side effects or they do not go away. Not all creams are likely to work for all skin conditions and may make some worse. Make sure you read the instructions that come with your medicine.

Let your doctor know about any medical issues you have, especially poor blood circulation, diabetes and immune system problems and about other medicines you are taking (particularly steroids).

Side effects of Triamaderm Ointment

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Common side effects of Triamaderm

  • Dryness
  • Hypertrichosis (excessive hair growth)
  • Hair follicle inflammation

How to cope with side effects?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Dryness
Use mild cleansing creams or soaps rather than harsh or perfumed ones. Use warm water (not hot) and do not spend too long in the bath or shower. Long bathing hours or using harsh soaps can wash away natural oils. Dry your skin gently with a towel and apply moisturizer immediately after washing. Do not use alcohol-based products on your skin. Choose clothing fabrics that will not irritate your skin.
  • Coping with Hypertrichosis (excessive hair growth)
Speak to your doctor as they may be able to help you by reducing your dose or by prescribing an alternate medicine. If you are very bothered by this side effect, do these at home to remove or lighten the hair such as shaving, waxing, plucking, using hair removal creams or bleaching.
