How Toujeo Solution for Injection works

Toujeo 300 u/ml Solostar is a long-acting insulin that provides consistent, all-day sugar control. It works like your body's natural insulin. Insulin facilitates reuptake of sugar in muscle and fat cells and also suppresses the production of sugar in the liver.

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Toujeo 300 u/ml Solostar Taking Insulin Glargine with alcohol may affect blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes.
Toujeo 300 u/ml Solostar may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
Toujeo 300 u/ml Solostar is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.
Toujeo 300 u/ml Solostar may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.

Expert Advice

  • This medicine is injected under the skin. It needs to be injected once daily, at the same time every day.
  • Injection below the skin of the abdomen results in faster absorption than other injection sites.
  • Injection sites must be rotated to prevent hard lumps from developing at one site.
  • Do not use if the preparation is no longer clear and colorless, or if it contains particles.
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) is a common side-effect. Learn how to identify and manage its symptoms (sweating, rapid heartbeat, weakness, blurry vision, headache) and teach your family as well.
  • Opened vials/cartridge stay good at room temperature for up to 4 weeks, while unopened vials must be placed in the refrigerator (2°C–8°C).

Q. What kind of insulin is Toujeo?

Toujeo is a long-acting, modified, and man-made version of human insulin. It has a long and steady blood-sugar-lowering action. It is used to treat diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents, and children aged 2 years or more.

Q. How is Toujeo administered?

Toujeo is injected under the skin (subcutaneously). Your doctor will show you the area of your skin where you should inject it. It is advisable to change the puncture site within that particular area of skin with every injection.

Q. Can I take Toujeo twice a day?

Toujeo is long acting and is usually prescribed to be taken once a day. It can be taken at any time of the day, but try to take at the same time each day. Your doctor will inform you in case two doses are required in a day.

Q. What will happen if I accidentally inject more than the recommended dose of Toujeo?

Taking more than the recommended dose of Toujeo may cause hypoglycemia. As a result, you may experience sweating, clammy skin, anxiety, fast heart beat, high blood pressure, palpitations and irregular heartbeat. Take some sugar immediately and consult your doctor.

Q. How should Toujeo be stored?

Keep this medication in the container it came in and out of the reach of children. Store unopened Toujeo vials and pens in the refrigerator, but do not freeze them. Moreover, never use Toujeo that has been frozen or defrosted. Unopened, refrigerated Toujeo can be stored until the date shown on the company's label. If a refrigerator is unavailable, store the vials at room temperature and away from direct sunlight and extreme heat.

Q. In what circumstances will the dose of Toujeo need to be changed?

You should consult your doctor for dose adjustment if you experience weight gain or loss, increased stress, illness, or change in diet. Your dose may also change if you have recently changed your exercise regime or are taking any medicines.

The serious side effects of Toujeo include rash, hives, or itching all over the body, wheezing, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or fast pulse. Other serious side effects of this medicine include sweating, hoarseness, weakness, muscle cramps, abnormal heartbeat, and swelling of the eyes, face, lips, tongue, or throat. Sudden weight gain, shortness of breath and swelling of ankles or feet are some of the other serious side effects. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately or get emergency treatment.
