How to use Tiflox Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Tiflox 400mg/600mg Tablet is to be taken with food.
Taking it empty stomach can cause stomach upset.

How Tiflox Tablet works

Tiflox 400mg/600mg Tablet is a combination of two antibiotics: Norfloxacin and Tinidazole. Norfloxacin works by preventing the bacterial cells from dividing and repairing, thereby killing the bacteria. Tinidazole kills parasites and anaerobic bacteria that cause infections by damaging their DNA. Together, they treat your infection effectively.

CAUTION
Tiflox 400mg/600mg Tablet may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heartbeat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure with alcohol (Disulfiram reactions).
Pregnancy

Tiflox 400mg/600mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
CAUTION
Tiflox 400mg/600mg Tablet is probably unsafe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
Tiflox 400mg/600mg Tablet may make you feel drowsy or gives you problems with coordination or sensation (e.g. numbness or weakness). This may affect your driving ability.
Kidney
CAUTION
Tiflox 400mg/600mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Tiflox 400mg/600mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Tiflox 400mg/600mg Tablet is not advised in patients with severe kidney disease.
Liver
Tiflox 400mg/600mg Tablet is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Tiflox 400mg/600mg Tablet may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

Yes, Tiflox is known to increase the risk of tendon rupture commonly in the achilles tendon. Tendon problems can happen in people of all ages who take Tiflox. Inform your health care provider if you hear or feel a snap or pop, have severe pain, rapid or immediate bruising after an accident, and are unable to use the affected arm or leg. This may indicate that you have a tendon rupture.

Q. Can the use of Tiflox cause metallic taste?

Yes, Tiflox can cause a temporary metallic taste. This metallic taste can be reduced by chewing sugar-free gum or mints, brushing teeth after the meals and by staying hydrated.

The use of Tiflox is considered to be harmful for patients with known allergy to norfloxacin or tinidazole or any other excipient present in the medicine. It should preferably be avoided in patients with a history of tendinitis (inflammation of the tendons) or tendon rupture caused because of the use of ciprofloxacin or any other medicine which belongs to the quinolone group of antimicrobial agents. It is also avoided in patients with some neurological disorders.

Q. Can I drink alcohol while taking Tiflox?

No, avoid drinking alcohol while taking Tiflox and for at least 3 days after the dosage is completed. Drinking alcohol while taking this medicine may cause an unpleasant reaction (Disulfuram like reaction) with symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, flushing or redness of the face.

Yes, you can take ORS (oral rehydration salts) with Tiflox. ORS is a special combination of dry salts that is mixed with clean drinking water. It can help restore the fluids lost due to diarrhea. ORS packets or solution can be availed from the nearest pharmacy, shop or from our website.
