Magaldrate, given alone or in combination with antiflatulent (simethicone) drugs to treat indigestion (dyspepsia), heartburn, gas, and other digestive problems.

How it works

Magaldrate belongs to group of medicines called antacids. It rapidly neutralizes or buffers existing acid in stomach .

  • Take magaldrate with or without food.
  • Do not take magaldrate if you have a kidney problem; if you are on a controlled magnesium diet; if you have inflammation of the appendix (appendicitis), stomach pain, urge to vomit (nausea), vomiting, diarrhea, blockage of the bowel/stool, rectal bleeding, or had bowel surgery.
  • Avoid using magaldrate if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
