Uses

Ritodine 50mg infusion is used in preterm labor.

How it works

Ritodine 50mg infusion is a tocolytic that belongs to a class of drugs called as ?2-adrenergic agonists. It causes relaxation of uterine muscles and decrease in the intensity and frequency of contractions.

Common side effects

Palpitations, Chest tightness, Chest pain, Decreased blood pressure, Altered heart rate, Decreased potassium level in blood, Increased sweating, Lung swelling, Nausea, Skin redness, Tachycardia, Tremor, Uterine bleeding / haemorrhage, Vomiting

  • Caution is to be used if you are suffering from cardiac diseases, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, hypokalemia and diabetes mellitus.
  • High doses of ritodrine might cause hypokalemia in patients taking corticosteroids, diuretics (acetazalamide, loop diuretics and thiazides) or theophylline. 
  • Your blood pressure and pulse rate may be monitored while on ritodrine treatment.
  • Avoid over-hydration while taking ritodrine.
  • Stop taking this medicine and you may advised to use ?–blocker as an antidote in case of drug overdose.
