Aprotinin(3000 KIU/ml)

Aprotinin is used in combination with human fibrinogen, human thrombin and calcium chloride to prevent bleeding of tissues or surfaces during various surgical procedures. It may also be used in conditions where blood fails to clot properly.

How it works

Aprotinin belongs to a category of drugs called as antifibrinolytics. It acts by sealing the broken tissues and inhibiting the degradation of blood clot thereby maintaining the clot for a longer period of time.

Common side effects

Nausea, Shortness of breath, Decreased blood pressure, Itching, Hypersensitivity reaction
Fibrinogen(70 mg)

Fibrinogen is used for treating sudden and severe bleeding episodes in patients with clotting problems due to inborn fibrinogen (naturally occurring) deficiency.

How it works

Fibrinogen belongs to the class of proteins called plasma glycoproteins and replaces the naturally occurring fibrinogen in the body. It helps in clot formation by binding to the specific receptors on the platelets (type of blood cells) thereby leading to formation of a stable plug that blocks and stops excessive bleeding.

Common side effects

Irritation of ear, Allergic skin rash, Decreased blood pressure, Shortness of breath, Fever
Thrombin(500 IU)

Thrombin is used to prevent surgical blood loss as well as minor bleeding/oozing. It is mainly used when the bleeding cannot be controlled by usual surgical techniques like suturing or ligation.

How it works

Thrombin belongs to a class of medicines called as hematologic agents. Thrombin is a protein involved in the production of blood clotting factors which prevents bleeding after cuts or surgery.

Common side effects

Numbness, Abnormal breathing, Abnormal vision, Allergic reaction, Anaphylactic reaction, Slurred speech, Weakness
