Palido -OD 3 Tablet


Overview

Introduction

Palido -OD 3 Tablet is a prescription medicine used in the treatment of schizophrenia and mania. It works by modulating the action of certain chemical messengers in the brain that affect thoughts.

Palido -OD 3 Tablet is taken by mouth with or without food. However, it is advisable to take it at the same time each day as this helps to maintain consistent level of medicine in the body. Take this in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor and if you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. It is important that this medication is not stopped suddenly without talking to doctor as it may worsen your symptoms. However, discontinue this medicine immediately if you experience Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), characterized by fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness.

Some common side effects of this medicine includes nystagmus (involuntary eye movement) and tremor. It also causes dizziness and sleepiness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. You should be cautious if you are using this medicine as it may increase the risk of developing diabetes, so it is better to monitor glucose regularly. Remember to inform doctor if you develop any unusual changes in mood or behavior, new or worsening depression, or suicidal thoughts while taking this medicine.

How to use Palido Tablet ER

How Palido Tablet ER works

Palido -OD 3 Tablet is an atypical antipsychotic. It works by affecting the levels of chemical messengers (dopamine and serotonin) to improve mood, thoughts and behavior.

Breastfeeding

Palido -OD 3 Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Driving
UNSAFE
Palido -OD 3 Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
CAUTION
Palido -OD 3 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Palido -OD 3 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Palido -OD 3 Tablet is not recommended in patients with end-stage kidney disease.
Liver
CAUTION
Palido -OD 3 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Palido -OD 3 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Limited information is available on the use of Palido -OD 3 Tablet in these patients. No dose adjustment is recommended in patients with mild to moderate liver disease.

Quick Tips

  • You can take paliperidone with or without breakfast, however, same pattern to be followed during the entire treatment.
  • Inform your doctor if you have known cardiovascular disease or family history of QT prolongation and if you are taking medicines that may prolong the QT interval.
  • Discontinue and inform you doctor immediately if you experience Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS), characterised by hyperthermia (fever), muscle rigidity, autonomic instability, altered consciousness, and elevated serum creatine levels.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a swallowing, stomach or intestinal disorder that reduces your ability to swallow or pass foods by normal bowel movements.
  • You may suffer from tardive dyskinesia characterized by rhythmical, involuntary movements, predominantly of the tongue and/or face. Inform you doctor if you experience such symptoms.
  • You may suffer from priapism (prolonged and/or painful erection), inform your doctor if you experience such symptoms.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery as paliperidone may have some nervous effects and may cause visual disturbances. 
  • If you are a patient with diabetes, or with schizophrenia, taking paliperidone may increase the risk of developing diabetes. You should monitor glucose regularly while on paliperidone treatment.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if the thoughts of suicide occur when on paliperidone therapy.
  • Tell your doctor if you are or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.

Managing schizophrenia is an ongoing process. Keeping treatment goals in mind can help the person with schizophrenia stay motivated. Help your loved one remember to take responsibility for managing the illness and working toward goals. 4. Ask about social services assistance.
