Opthopin Eye Drop

Overview

Introduction

Opthopin Eye Drop is used to treat myopia and inflammation in the eyes (uveitis or iritis). It is also used for the eye examination and diagnose eye problems like blurred vision or squint in children.

Always wash your hands before using Opthopin Eye Drop. Use only the number of drops that your doctor has prescribed. If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before using the drops and wait for at least 15 minutes before putting them back in. If you are also using another eye medicine, wait for at least 10 minutes before using it. Read the leaflet that comes with the medicine for a full guide on how to use the drops and get the most benefit. Do not touch the tip of the dropper or bottle. This may lead to infection. You should use this medicine regularly to get the most benefit and it is best done at the same time each day. If you want to stop using it, consult your doctor first.

The most common side effects are irritation or pain in the eye, watery or dry eyes, blurred vision, increased heart rate, and blood pressure. There are other, less common, side effects affecting other parts of the body, some of which may be serious. Read the leaflet that comes with the medicine and consult your doctor if you are bothered by any side effects. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

How to cope with side effects?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Eye pain
Make sure you are using the correct amount of this medicine. Do not use too much and do not use it too often. If the symptoms are bad, there may be an alternative medicine, so talk to your doctor. Do not use other eye drops to ease the discomfort without talking to your doctor. To relieve discomfort, try placing a cold compress over your closed eyes few times a day. Try not to touch or rub your eyes. Wear sunglasses when you are outside. Drink enough water to stay hydrated. Do not keep looking at your phone, computer or television screen for long hours.
  • Coping with Blurred vision
You can consider washing your eyes with water. Avoid driving or using tools or machines if your vision is impaired. Do not take your next dose if your vision is still blurry. If it gets worse or does not improve, ask your doctor to recommend eye drops or talk about changing your medications.
  • Coping with High blood pressure
You can reduce your blood pressure by eating less salt, eating more fruit and vegetables, reducing the amount of alcohol you drink, being more active and losing weight. You could also reduce your caffeine intake (found in tea, coffee and cola drinks). Also, if you smoke, seek advice about quitting. High blood pressure can be treated with a range of different medicines. You should ask your doctor whether you need medication. Keep in touch with your doctor and get your blood pressure checked regularly.
  • Coping with Increased heart rate
Breathe in slowly through your nostrils and then breathe out through your mouth. Repeat this until you feel calm. Try sitting cross-legged and drink plenty of water. Splash cold water or apply a cold towel or ice pack on your face for 20-30 seconds. It is important to make sure that you are not taking more than the prescribed dose. As a preventive measure, you should limit the amount of alcohol you drink and give up smoking. Also, cut down the amount of coffee, tea or cola you drink. In general, being physically active and eating a healthy well-balanced diet is good advice for any heart condition. If the condition does not improve, consult your doctor as they may need to change you to a different type of medicine.

Floaters are common with myopia. Remember to get a dilated eye examination done at regular intervals. Myopia itself has increased risk of retinal detachment. Regular retinal checkup is required. http://www.arohealth.com/eye-related/eye-floaters-causes-and-treatment/
