Neurokem NT Tablet is a combination medicine used for the treatment of neuropathic pain. This medicine decreases the pain by stopping the movement of pain signals to the brain.

Neurokem NT Tablet is taken by mouth, with or without food and preferably at bedtime. It is advised to take it at the same time each day as this helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the blood. Take this medicine in the dose and duration advised by your doctor as this is a habit-forming medicine. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. Finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. It is important not to stop this medication suddenly without talking to the doctor.

Some common side effects of this medicine include constipation, difficulty in urination, weight gain, tiredness, and dryness in mouth. It may also cause dizziness and sleepiness. So, do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. It is thought to work by interfering with pain signals that travel through the damaged nerves and the brain.
Taking Neurokem NT Tablet regularly will improve your physical and social functioning and overall quality of life. It takes a few weeks to work so you need to take it regularly even if you feel it is not doing any good. Once your symptoms have gone you should still keep taking the medicine until your doctor advises you to stop.

How Neurokem NT Tablet works

Neurokem NT Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Pregabalin and Nortriptyline. Pregabalin is an alpha 2 delta ligand which decreases the pain by modulating calcium channel activity of the nerve cells. Nortriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant which increases the levels of chemical messengers (serotonin and noradrenaline) that stop the movement of pain signals in the brain. Together, they relieve neuropathic pain (pain from damaged nerves).

If you suddenly stop taking Neurokem NT Tablet, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, sleeping difficulties, nausea, pain and sweating. You may need to gradually taper the dose before you stop the medication completely.

Yes, Neurokem NT Tablet may make you feel drowsy or you may suddenly fall asleep during your daily activities. Avoid driving a car, operating machinery, working at heights or participating in potentially dangerous activities at the beginning of your treatment until you know how the medicine affects you. Inform your doctor if you experience such episodes while taking this medicine.

The use of Neurokem NT Tablet can affect the sexual life of both men and women. Most commonly caused problems are decreased sexual desire, erectile dysfunction (inability to develop or maintain erection during the sexual activity) and inability to reach orgasm. It can also cause a decrease in satisfaction and cause discomfort while intercourse. If you experience these problems, discuss them with your doctor but do not stop taking Neurokem NT Tablet.

Q. Are there any serious side effects associated with the use of Neurokem NT Tablet?

Serious side effects because of Neurokem NT Tablet are uncommon and rare. Consult your doctor if you notice any of the following: changes in body temperature, difficulty in breathing, increased heartbeat (palpitations), weakness, unsteadiness when walking, reduced coordination or slowed reactions, unusual changes in mood or behavior (such as restlessness, nervousness or excitement), signs of depression, seeing or hearing things that are not there, irrational thinking, blurred or double vision, uncontrollable jerky eye movements, difficulty seeing, signs of frequent infections such as fever, severe chills, sore throat or mouth ulcers. Q. What if I forget to take Neurokem NT Tablet?

If you forget to take the scheduled dose of Neurokem NT Tablet and it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose at the scheduled time. Otherwise, take it as soon as you remember, and then go back to taking your medicine as you would normally. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose you missed because this may increase the risk of unwanted side effects due to overdosage. If you are not sure what to do, consult your doctor about how to manage a situation like this.

Q. What if I take too much of this drug by mistake?

In a situation like this, contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency help at the nearest hospital. Do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning. You may need urgent medical attention.
