How to use Mintel Syrup

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Mintel Syrup may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Mintel Syrup works

Albendazole belongs to class of medications called anti-helminthic. Albendazole works by keeping the worm from absorbing sugar (glucose), so that the worm loses energy and dies.

Pregnancy

Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
SAFE
Mintel Syrup is safe to use during lactation. Human studies have shown that either the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in significant amount or is not expected to cause toxicity to the baby.
Driving
Mintel Syrup may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney
Mintel Syrup is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Mintel Syrup may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
Liver
CAUTION
Mintel Syrup should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Mintel Syrup may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Inform your doctor if you develop signs of jaundice like yellowing of eyes and skin, itching, and clay colored stools while taking this medicine.

Mintel is an antibiotic. It is an anthelmintic drug and is used in the treatment of many parasitic infections.
Mintel is used for the treatment of infections caused by helminths (worms) like Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm/threadworm), Ascaris lumbricoides (roundworm), Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus (hookworms), Trichuris trichiura (whipworm), Strongyloides stercoralis, animal hookworm larvae causing cutaneous larva migrans, and Opisthorchis viverrini (liver flukes) and Clonorchis sinensis. It is also indicated for the treatment of Hymenolepis nana and Taenia spp. (tapeworm) infections and has shown good activity against anaerobic protozoa like Giardia lamblia and Trichomonas vaginalis. Please consult your doctor before taking any treatment for worms as there could be many worms against which Mintel would not be effective.
Mintel works by killing the larva and the adult form of the worm by inhibiting tubulin polymerization which causes energy depletion and decreases the mobility of the worm and hence kills the helminth.
Q. Can I take Mintel with fluconazole?
Mintel can be taken with fluconazole. No drug-drug interactions have been reported between the two. However, interactions can occur. Please consult your doctor before taking the two medicines together.
Mintel is safe if taken for prescribed duration in prescribed doses as advised by your doctor.
Mintel is used for the treatment of pinworms (Enterobius vermicolaris). Mintel is active against the larval and the adult stages. Consult your doctor before taking any medicines for worm infections.
Mintel is not an over the counter (OTC) product. It is a prescription medicine.
Mintel is safe to use in people with G6PD deficiency. Please consult your doctor to know more about drugs which are to be avoided in G6PD deficient people.
Mintel is active against tapeworms like Hymenolepis nana and Taenia spp. Please consult your doctor before taking any medicine for these worm infestations.
Diarrhoea is an uncommon side effect of Mintel. Please consult your doctor if you experience diarrhea after taking Mintel.
