Lasix 40mg Tablet is used in the treatment of hypertension and hypercalcemia.
It is also used to relieve fluid overload (edema) associated with heart, liver, kidney or lung disease.

How to use Lasix Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. It can be taken with or without food, but it is better to take Lasix 40mg Tablet at a fixed time.

Lasix 40mg tablet is a diuretic. It acts on kidneys and removes excess water and certain electrolytes from the body through urine.

Expert advice for Lasix Tablet

  • Inform your doctor if you have dizziness, fatigue, or muscle weakness that stays for a long time.
  • Lasix can cause dehydration and lower blood potassium levels. Take potassium supplements or diet rich in potassium (banana, spinach, coconut water etc.) as Lasix may cause potassium deficiency.
  • Get kidney function tests, blood electrolyte, glucose, uric acid and lipid levels on a regular basis.
  • Before taking Lasix, inform your doctor if you have
    • Allergy to Lasix or to sulfonylureas which are used to treat diabetes (e.g. glibenclamide, glipizide)
    • Diabetes mellitus, as Lasix can increase your sugar levels
     
  • Lasix starts to work in half an hour.
  • Avoid taking Lasix at bedtime as it makes you urinate frequently. Take it at least four hours before going to bed.
  • Lasix can cause low blood pressure and you may feel dizzy for first few days. 
    • Do not stand up suddenly from a sitting or lying position, you may fall. 
    • Avoid driving or use of any machines that requires you to be alert.

Q. How is Lasix different from Torasemide?
Both Lasix and Torasemide are loop diuretics and are used to treat high blood pressure and edema caused by an underlying liver, kidney or lung diseases but Lasix is also used in the treatment of hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood). However, Torasemide has a long duration of action and is safe to use in patients with renal failure as compared to furosemide.
