Lacoxa 10 mg Injection is a prescription medicine use to control and prevent epilepsy (seizures). It is used alone or in combination with other similar medicines and it controls seizures by decreasing the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain.

Lacoxa 10 mg Injection can be taken at home and can only be used as per guidelines of the doctor or you should take it under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Take it at the same time each day as this helps to maintain consistent level of medicine in the body. If you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember it and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. You should always consult doctor before stopping this medicine as stopping abruptly may increase the seizure frequency. If you have any heart problems, inform the doctor before taking this medicine.

Side effects are few and uncommon with this medicine. However, it may sometime cause headache, diplopia (double vision), blurred vision, and nausea in few patients. Some patients may also experience dizziness and sleepiness, such patients should not drive or do anything that requires mental focus. Most of the side effects are self-limiting and usually disappear with time.

How Lacoxa Injection works

Q. I have been taking Lacoxa since nine months and did not have any episode of seizure. Can I stop taking it now?

No, you should not stop taking Lacoxa even if you start feeling better. Stopping this medicine suddenly may lead to seizures which will be difficult to control. Talk to your doctor if you have any problems with Lacoxa. The doctor will reduce the dose gradually.

Q. Is it safe to drive if I am taking Lacoxa?

No, you need to be careful while driving or operating heavy machinery until and unless you know how Lacoxa affects you. Lacoxa may cause dizziness or drowsiness and blurred vision, which is more when you start treatment and when the dose is increased.

Q. What should I do if I forget a dose of Lacoxa?

If you miss a dose within 6 hours of the scheduled time, take it immediately and then take the next dose at the regular scheduled time. However, if you have forgotten to take it and more than 6 hours have elapsed beyond the scheduled time, then skip the dose and take the next one as scheduled. Do not double the dose.

Q. Is Lacoxa a habit-forming medicine?

No, Lacoxa is not habit forming and there are no reports of withdrawal symptoms following its discontinuation. Lacoxa may cause euphoria (patients may feel extremely happy and overwhelmed) in some individuals who may then take it merely for fun (drug abuse). Such individuals become psychologically dependent on this drug.

Q. Does Lacoxa have any effect on fertility?

Lacoxa has not been reported to affect fertility in males or females.

Q. Can I take Lacoxa if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Though no potential side effects have been reported with the use of Lacoxa during pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is best to avoid Lacoxa during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Q. For how long do I need to continue Lacoxa?

Lacoxa is generally used for long-term treatment. Keep taking the medicine as per your doctor’s advice and till you can tolerate the side effects. Talk to your doctor if the side effects bother you.

Q. What if somebody takes excess of Lacoxa?

Excess of Lacoxa may cause dizziness, nausea, vomiting, seizures, shock, heart problems and even coma. If such a situation arises, seek emergency medical support in a nearby hospital.

Q. Is it safe to take Lacoxa if I am on ritonavir therapy?

Be cautious if you are taking Lacoxa while on ritonavir therapy. If you have liver or kidney problems and are taking ritonavir, the dose of Lacoxa should be reduced. Inform your doctor before starting Lacoxa.
