Glycomet-GP 1mg/850mg Tablet is a combination of two antidiabetic medicines: Glimepiride and Metformin. Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea which works by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in order to lower the blood glucose. Metformin is a biguanide which works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying glucose absorption from intestines and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin.

Taking metformin with alcohol can cause lactic acidosis and you may experience malaise, respiratory distress, slow or irregular heartbeat, sleepiness, stomach upset, or other unusual symptoms.

Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.

the medicines don't matter. what matters is whether ur sugars r controlled or not. i suggest u do a HB1AC test and a fasting blood glucose and a 2hr post prandial b.g and send me the reports

Needs to keep sugar level in normal limits. Take both medicines at present. Along with medicines take more precautions to your diet and do regular exercise for to keep sugar level in normal limits. And thus reduce the dose of medicine gradually and can stop one medicine later after discuss with your doctor.

Yes, the use of Glycomet-gp can lead to lactic acidosis. It is a medical emergency which is caused by increased levels of lactic acid in the blood. It is also known as MALA (Metformin associated lactic acidosis). It is a rare side effect associated with the use of metformin and therefore, it is contraindicated in patients with underlying kidney disease, old age patients or who take large amounts of alcohol. Symptoms of lactic acidosis may include muscle pain or weakness, dizziness, tiredness, feeling of cold in arms and legs, difficulty in breathing, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or slow heart rate. If you have these symptoms, stop taking Glycomet-gp and immediately consult your doctor.
Glycomet-gp is a combination of two medicines: Glimepiride+Metformin. This medicine is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) along with diet and exercise to improve blood glucose levels in adults. Glimepiride lowers the blood glucose levels by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas. Metformin works by lowering the glucose production in the liver and improving insulin sensitivity. This combination is not indicated for the treatment of Type 1 DM.

Yes, the use of Glycomet-gp can cause vitamin B12 deficiency on long-term use as it interferes with absorption of vitamin B12 in the stomach. If untreated, it may cause anemia and nerve problems and the patient can have tingling sensation and numbness in hands and feet, weakness, urinary problems, change in mental status and difficulty in making balance (ataxia). To avoid such problems, some researchers suggest an intake of vitamin B12 from outside at least once every year.

Yes, the use of Glycomet-gp can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level).
