Introduction of Gliotaz Capsule

Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule is used in the treatment of specific type of cancer of the brain. It is used to treat brain tumors if they return or get worse after standard treatment. It may be also used to treat other conditions, as determined by the doctor.

Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule should be be taken empty stomach and at same time each day to make sure it has the best effect. It prevents cancer cells from growing, as a result of which they eventually die. This stops the spread of cancer cells in the body. It also works by decreasing your immune system's response to various diseases. Since the growth of normal body cells may also be affected with this medicine, other effects may also occur. Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule often causes nausea and vomiting. However, it is important that you continue to receive the medicine, even if you begin to feel ill. Do not stop taking this medicine without first checking with your doctor.

This medicine may reduce the number of blood cells in your blood thereby, increasing the susceptibility to infections. Regular blood tests are required to check your blood cells along with kidney, liver and heart function during treatment with this medicine. Inform your doctor if you observe signs of infections such as fever, chills, body ache or if you have unusual bruising or bleeding. It is important to use effective contraception to avoid getting pregnant or fathering a child during treatment. The duration of the treatment with this medicine is decided by your doctor depending upon your disease.

How Gliotaz Capsule works

Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule is an anti-cancer medication. It enters the brain tissues and works by damaging the genetic material (DNA and RNA) of the cancer cells. This stops their growth and multiplication.

Pregnancy

Lactation

Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule is unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Data suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby.
Driving

Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule is probably safe to use in patients with kidney disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
Cautious use is advised in patients with severe kidney disease while they are taking Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule.
Liver
CAUTION
Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Limited information is available on the use of Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule in these patients. No dose adjustment is recommended in patients with mild to moderate liver disease.

What if you miss a dose of Gliotaz Capsule?

If you miss a dose of Gliotaz 100 mg Capsule, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Expert Advice

  • Swallow full tablets on an empty stomach, one hour before your meal.
  • Avoid being near people who are sick or have infections. Consult your doctor if you develop symptoms of opportunistic infections (such as Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia) and reactivation of infections (such as hepatitis B virus) Using temozolomide may increase your risk of developing certain types of bone marrow cancer. Be aware about your specific risk.
  • You may be given medication to prevent nausea or other side effects while you are receiving temozolomide.
  • Your blood will be tested frequently during treatment to monitor the side effects of temozolomide on your blood cells as you may have a small risk of other changes in blood cells, including leukemia.
  • Avoid activities that may increase your risk of bleeding or injury. Use extra care to prevent bleeding while shaving or brushing your teeth.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking temozolomide.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery while using temozolomide as it may make you tired or sleepy.
  • Both male and female patients should take effective contraceptive precautions during and after 6 months of treatment. Male patients should seek advice on conservation of sperm prior to treatment as temozolomide treatment may cause infertility.
