Gemidro Tablet is used in the treatment and prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis. It strengthens bones by stopping cells called osteoclasts from breaking down bone. This keeps bones strong and lowers the chance of fractures in women after menopause who have osteoporosis.
Gemidro Tablet is best taken without food. You should take it regularly at evenly spaced intervals as per the schedule prescribed by your doctor. Taking it at the same time every day will help you to remember to take it. Do not stop taking it until you have finished, even when you feel better. It may take several days to get the full benefit of this drug. Gemidro Tablet is only part of a program of treatment that may also include changes to your diet and taking calcium and vitamin supplements.
The most common side effects include headache, increased blood cholesterol, dizziness, upper respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, musculoskeletal (bone, muscle or joint) pain, indigestion, heartburn, and diarrhea. These are usually mild and will disappear after a short time. If they do not go away, tell your doctor. Gemidro Tablet can cause serious kidney problems, especially if you are dehydrated, if you take diuretic medicine (water pills), or if you already have kidney disease. It can also cause low levels of calcium in the blood and pain in the mouth or jaw. These are serious side effects and need urgent medical attention. Tell your doctor straight away.
You should not be given this medicine if you are breastfeeding. Before taking it, tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or low calcium levels. Also, let your doctor know what other drugs you are taking. Some of them may affect, or be affected by, this injection, especially medicines used to treat severe infections and medicines used to treat cancer and osteoporosis. You may need frequent medical tests to check your kidney function and mineral levels. Avoid smoking or try to quit as smoking can reduce your bone mineral density, making fractures more likely. Drinking large amounts of alcohol can also cause bone loss and should be avoided.

Gemidro Tablet belongs to a class of medicines called bisphosphonates that prevents abnormal breakdown of the bones. Gemidro Tablet is used to prevent and treat osteoporosis and fractures in people with metastatic cancer (a cancer which spreads to newer areas of the body). It may also be used to treat hypercalcemia (elevated blood calcium levels).

Gemidro Tablet works by increasing the density of the bones which helps prevent osteoporosis. Along with that, it helps to treat high calcium levels in the blood caused due to secondary bone cancer. It is also helpful in treating metastasis of bone which is caused due to breast cancer.
Q. How long should I take Gemidro Tablet?
Gemidro Tablet should be taken in the dose and duration advised by your doctor. The medicine takes around 6 month to show its maximum benefits on bones. However, in some cases the doctor may suggest Gemidro Tablet for a longer duration. The exact duration will depend on the condition you are being treated for.
Q. How to take Gemidro Tablet?
It should be taken in the morning after getting up on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. Do not lie down and stay fully upright for at least 60 minutes after swallowing the medicine. Avoid taking any food or other medication just after taking Gemidro Tablet, maintain a gap of at least 30 minutes. Take this medicine only after consulting the doctor and follow the instructions advised.

One should not lie down after taking Gemidro Tablet as there is a possibility that the medication might come back up into the esophagus (food pipe) and even damage the esophagus.
