It can be taken with or without food, but it is better to take Gancigel 1.5mg eye ointment at a fixed time.
Interaction with alcohol is unknown. Please consult your doctor.
Gancigel 1.5mg eye ointment may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Either animal studies have shown adverse effect on fetus and there are no human studies or studies in human and animals are not available. It should be given only if potential benefits justifies risk to the fetus. Please consult your doctor.

Ganciclovir Topical(1.5mg)


Gancigel 1.5mg eye ointment is used for the treatment of acute herpetic keratitis (inflammation of the cornea of the eye) caused by herpes simplex virus. 

How it works

Ganciclovir belongs to a class of medications called as synthetic nucleoside analogues. It is an antiviral drug that works by blocking the viral DNA replication, a process essential for the virus to grow and multiply.

Expert advice for GANCIGEL

  • Do not use ganciclovir topical in children <18 years of age unless prescribed by the doctor. 
  • Avoid use of contact lenses in eyes before and after instillation for 15 minutes.
  • Inform your doctor if you are using any other eye drops or ointment.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience visual disturbances due to instillation in eyes. 
  • Discontinue use and consult your doctor if irritation in eyes persists.
  • Ganciclovir topical is known to have an effect on fertility and hence contraception is advised in men and women of child-bearing age while on this therapy.
  • Ensure that the ganciclovir treatment does not exceed 21 days.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to ganciclovir, acyclovir or valganciclovir or any of its ingredients.
