Memory loss in Alzheimer’s disease occurs due to disturbances of signal transmission in the brain. Galamer OD 8 mg Tablet is a cholinesterase inhibitor. It works by increasing the levels of a chemical messenger (acetylcholine) involved in transmmission of nerve signals. This improves memory and thinking.
Consult your doctor if you have any heart disorder, electrolyte disturbances, peptic (stomach) ulcer disease, acute abdominal pain, a disorder of the nervous system (like fits or Parkinson’s disease), asthma, pneumonia, difficulties passing urine, or if you had an operation on the gut or bladder.
Do not drive or operate machinery as galantamine may cause drowsiness.
Do not consume alcohol while taking galantamine as it may worsen the side effects.
Galantamine should be used with caution in elderly as they may be more sensitive to its effects.
Tell your doctor if you are or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
Taking Galantamine with alcohol can make you feel sleepy
Galamer OD 8 mg Tablet is probably safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.
Galamer OD 8 mg Tablet is probably unsafe to use during lactation.
Limited human data suggest that the drug could represent a significant risk to the baby.
Galamer OD 8 mg Tablet may make you feel dizzy, sleepy, tired, or decrease alertness. If this happens, do not drive.
Galamer OD 8 mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Galamer OD 8 mg Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor. However, use of this medicine is not recommended in patients with end-stage kidney disease.
