Based on your clinical history, your doctor plans the type of medicine and it's dose and duration. For first episode of anxiety/ depression/ panic, the usual maintenance phase is 6 months of asymptomatic period, after which medicines can be gradually tapered. But treatment may need to continue longer depending on severity and frequency of episodes. Treatment for Recurrent Depressive Disorder , psychotic disorders, Bipolar Affective Disorder and OCD usually lasts for much longer. To monitor any potential side effects and to take any decision to change medication or stop them, several factors have to be taken in account for which regular follow up with your psychiatrist is important. For second opinion, seek a proper consultation with another psychiatrist and take along your previous prescriptions. Since fluoxetine has a long half life, it can be stopped immediately.

This is irregular treatment which can't do much good.

I've been suffering from sleep paralysis for 20 years. It happens only when I sleep alone. An MBBS doctor had given me fludac 20 mg but it didn't affect. Internet YouTube are showing it as alien abduction, demon etc. It is confusing me. My sleep paralysis is extremely horrible, long-term & intolerable.
Dr. Jyoti Kapoor Madan
Psychiatrist
Sleep paralysis is due to poor quality of sleep which can happen due to high levels of anxiety. It's not a demon or an alien abduction and is at times a normal phenomenon that most of us have faced when we haven't been able to maintain peaceful sleep. Even though short course of benzodiazepines can help, in your case a 20 year history suggests underlying psychiatric issue. It would be appropriate that you visit a psychiatrist and start treatment.
I am diabetic since 17 yrs and hyper tensive since 11 yrs, using GLIMULIN MF FORTE in the morning, JANUMET 50/1000 in the afternoon, GLIMULIN MF in the night. CONCOR AM 5mg in the morning, TELMA 40 in the evening, GABAPIN NT 400 twice daily, ECOSPRIN AV 75 in the afternoon. But since last 3 months I have been facing episodes of severe gas trouble with bloating but no pain in the stomach. For this the doctor had suggested RIFAGUT 550 mg twice daily for 5 days, then after the reoccurrence in 1 month he again prescribed RIFAGUT 550mg for another 5 days along with VSL-3 once daily for 10 days after lunch, again there was an episode after 15 days FLUDAC 10 mg capsule was asked to be taken at the night. Now I had taken it for 4 days and yet yesterday night the same problem reoccured. I have observed that in all these episodes there is one thing common in my diet which is watermelon. I doubt that it's high fructose level is the culprit. After eating the gas trouble starts with in 3 hrs and the gas doesn't stop for another 3 hrs, during this I have to continuously force out the gas through mouth or else my stomach and chest keeps ballooning out and a false feeling of heart trouble is being felt by me due to which we had to undergo ECG which was normal. After browsing in the Internet I doubt that I am having fructose intolerance please suggest.
