Uses of Femipristal Capsule

Femipristal Capsule is used in the treatment of uterine fibroids. It is used for intermittent treatment and pre-operative treatment of moderate to severe symptoms of uterine fibroid in adult women of reproductive age.

How to use Femipristal Capsule

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Femipristal Capsule may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Femipristal Capsule works

Femipristal Capsule is a selective progesterone receptor modulator. It works by modifying the action of progesterone (natural female hormone). It is used either before surgery of fibroids or for intermittent (at regular intervals) treatment of fibroids. It helps reduce their size, stops or controls bleeding and increases your red blood cell count.

Pregnancy
CAUTION
Femipristal Capsule is highly unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Human and animal studies have shown significant adverse effects on the foetus. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
Femipristal Capsule is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Do not drive unless you are feeling well.
After taking Femipristal Capsule, some women experience dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision and/or loss of concentration. If you experience these symptoms, do not drive.
Kidney
There is limited information available on the use of Femipristal Capsule in patients with kidney disease. Please consult your doctor.
Liver
There is limited information available on the use of Femipristal Capsule in patients with liver disease. Please consult your doctor.

What if you miss a dose of Femipristal Capsule?

If you miss a dose of Femipristal Capsule, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

  • Your periods will usually start again within four weeks of stopping Femipristal Capsule.
  • Use a reliable barrier contraceptive method (such as condoms or a diaphragm) to prevent pregnancy while you are taking Femipristal Capsule as it may make hormonal contraceptives (such as pills) less effective.
  • Your doctor may get routine blood tests done to assess the functioning of your liver. Inform your doctor if you notice yellowing of skin/eye, dark urine, or stomach pain.

Q. What is Femipristal used for?

Femipristal is used to treat uterine fibroids (a non-cancerous growth in the uterus) and its associated symptoms such as heavy vaginal bleeding, prolonged periods and lower back pain.

Q. How and in what dose should I take Femipristal?

The adult dose of Femipristal is one tablet per day for three months (one treatment course). You can take it with or without food, however, take Femipristal tablet strictly as per the advice of your doctor, preferably at the same time of each day. This will ensure consistent levels of medicine in your body.

Q. Can I take my usual birth control pills while taking Femipristal?

Use physical forms of contraceptives like condoms while taking Femipristal. The reason being Femipristal may make your birth control pill less effective. You can consult your doctor for more clarity.

Q. Can I become pregnant while taking Femipristal?

Yes, you can get pregnant while taking Femipristal. However, stop using Femipristal immediately and inform your doctor if you get pregnant.

Q. What are the common side effects which I can experience while taking Femipristal?

Amenorrhea (absence of menstrual bleeding or very less bleeding) is the most common side effect of using Femipristal, and it is totally normal. The other common side effects are hot flush (red and warm face), nausea (feeling sick), headache, dizziness, breast pain, and fatigue (feeling of tiredness). Most of these symptoms are temporary. However, if they persist, check with your doctor as soon as possible.
