Ethionamide(250 mg)

Uses

Ethomid 250 mg tablet is used in tuberculosis (TB).

How it works

Ethomid 250 mg tablet gets converted to its active form which acts as an antibacterial agent against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It appears to inhibit a naturally occurring process called peptide synthesis and thus stops cell growth of Mycobacterium tuberculi, which results in cell death.

Common side effects

Nausea, Postural hypotension (low blood pressure), Liver transaminases increased, Depression, Diarrhoea, Dizziness, Bitter taste, Fall in blood sugar level, Gastrointestinal discomfort, Headache, Hepatitis (viral infection of liver), Reduced blood platelets, Tingling sensation of extremity, Numbness of extremity, Visual impairment, Vomiting
