Spironolactone is used in the treatment of increased blood pressure , heart failure, cirrhosis and low potassium

How it works

Spironolactone lowers blood pressure and swelling by removing the extra water and electrolytes from the body. Spironolactone does this without loss of potassium from the body.

Do not use supplements or salt substitutes that are high in potasium. Consult your doctor if you develop any muscle weakness, skin changes, red or black tarry stool. Avoid taking alcohol with this medication as it may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting when you get up too quickly from a lying position.
