It can be taken with or without food, but it is better to take Doxacard 1 mg tablet at a fixed time.
Taking doxazosin with alcohol may lower your blood pressure. This can cause dizziness or feeling like you might pass out, especially when getting up from a sitting or lying position.

Doxazosin(1 mg)


Doxacard 1 mg tablet is used to treat signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP, also known as enlarged prostate) such as urinary outflow obstruction (characterized by hesitation, intermittency, dribbling, weak urinary stream, and incomplete emptying of the bladder) and obstructive and irritative symptoms (nocturia, daytime frequency, urgency, burning). Doxacard 1 mg tablet is also used alone or in combination with other medications for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure).

How it works

Doxacard 1 mg tablet belongs to class of medications called alpha-blockers. Doxacard 1 mg tablet causes relaxation of the smooth muscle tone in the prostate and bladder neck, hence the urine is passed easily in patients with enlarged prostrate. Further, Doxacard 1 mg tablet relaxes the blood vessels, thereby lowering the high blood pressure.

Expert advice for DOXACARD

  • You may experience syncope (temporary loss of consciousness caused by a fall in blood pressure) especially in the upright position, along with other postural symptoms such as dizziness after the first dose. Do not panic, you should sit or lie down until you feel better.
  • Inform your doctor that you are on doxazosin therapy, if you are to undergo an eye surgery for cataract so as to avoid the complications during cataract surgery.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery as doxazosin may make you drowsy or dizzy.
  • Take screening test for the presence of prostate cancer prior to treatment and at regular intervals afterwards.
  • Tell your doctor if you are or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
