It can be taken with or without food, but it is better to take Dilgel 2% w/w gel at a fixed time.
Interaction with alcohol is unknown. Please consult your doctor.
Dilgel 2% w/w gel may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Either animal studies have shown adverse effect on fetus and there are no human studies or studies in human and animals are not available. It should be given only if potential benefits justifies risk to the fetus. Please consult your doctor.

Diltiazem Topical(2% w/w)


Diltiazem is used topically to treat anal fissure (a tear in the skin of the lower half of the anal canal) and reduce the associated severe and sharp pain, irritation and tenderness.

How it works

Diltiazem belongs to a class of medications called as calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing the muscle around the anus (the anal sphincter), which reduces the pressure and increases blood flow to the area allowing it to heal.

Application site itching, Contact dermatitis, Dizziness, Headache, Rectal haemorrhage (bleeding)

Expert advice for DILGEL

  • Ensure you have opened your bowels before using the cream, so as to get the cream in contact with the application site as long as possible.
  • Inform your doctor if you have any heart problems, if you are taking any medications to reduce blood pressure, if you are taking medicines containing diltiazem.
  • Do not share the cream with anyone else, even if their symptoms appear similar. 
  • Do not use the cream after 4 weeks of opening the tube and dispose it safely.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding. 
  • Do not use if you are allergic to diltiazem or any of its ingredients.
  • Children and adults below 18 years of age must not use.
  • Do not use if you have severe decreased heart rate (bradycardia), or who have problems with the control of heart rate (heart block), or left ventricular failure associated pulmonary congestion (excessive accumulation of fluids in lungs).
