It is better to take Dextrose 25% infusion empty stomach (1 hour before food or 2 hours after food).

Uses

Dextrose 25% infusion is used in short term fluid replacement after trauma.

How it works

Dextrose 25% infusion are large molecular weight substances which remain resctricted within the blood vessels and generate oncotic pressure (pressure produced by proteins in the blood).

Common side effects

Paresthesia (tingling or pricking sensation), Anaphylactic reaction, Convulsion, Diabetes, Decreased potassium level in blood, Decreased magnesium level in blood, Decreased phosphate level in blood, Inflammation of vein due to blood clot in the blood vessels, Injection site pain, Water intoxication
