Chloramphenicol is used to treat severe life-threatening infections, particularly those caused by Haemophilus influenzae and typhoid fever. It is also used to treat certain eye infections. It is also used in the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections of the outer ear.

Chloramphenicol is a potent broad spectrum antibiotic which has activity against many types of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by killing or slowing the growth of sensitive bacteria.

Clotrimazole is used for the treatment of fungal skin infections mainly infections of the vagina, vulva, groin or penis along with ringworm, fungal nappy rash and infections of the armpit, toes and skin folds. 

How it works

Clotrimazole acts against the fungi by impairing the permeability of the fungal cell wall and inhibits the activity of enzymes within the cell. It specifically inhibits the biosynthesis of ergosterol and other sterols required for cell membrane production.

Chloramphenicol tablet/capsule/oral suspension is best taken with a full glass (8 ounces) of water on an empty stomach (either 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals), unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Chloramphenicol may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine. Chloramphenicol may reduce the number of clot-forming cells (platelets) in your blood. Monitor blood counts and plasma concentration before and during treatment. To prevent bleeding, avoid situations in which bruising or injury may occur. Chloramphenicol may lower your body's ability to fight infection. Prevent infection by avoiding contact with people with colds or other infections. Notify your doctor of any signs of infection, including fever, sore throat, rash, or chills, If you are using the drug for eye infection, do not wear your contact lenses during the course of treatment.
