Cefpodoxime is a cephalosporin antiboitic with similar structure as that of penicillin. It is used in the treatment of certain  bacterial infections in the body like urinary tract infection, sexually transmitted disease (gonorrhea), lung infection (pneumonia), kidney infection (pyelonephritis), sinusitis, skin or soft tissue Infection, inflammation of tonsils (tonsillitis), sore throat (pharyngitis), and upper respiratory tract infection.

How it works

It works by interfering with the formation of the outer covering (cell wall) of bacteria so that the wall ruptures and results in the death of the bacteria.

Common side effects

increase in heart rate, dizziness, lower legs, pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones, especially on the face and neck, hands, loss of appetite, bladder pain, Very Common: diarrhea.Common: Change in the color, dry mouth, irregular, bloody or cloudy urine swelling of the face, difficulty with breathing or troubled breathing, black stools, arms, increased weight, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth., or racing heartbeat or pulse, pounding, sores, extreme weakness, lower back or side pain, itching of the vagina or genital area, ulcers, flushing or redness of the skin, tenderness, or smell of vaginal fluid.Rare: Abdominal or stomach pain, feeling of warmth or heat, pain during sexual intercourse, decreased urination, chest pain, nervousness, fast, collection of blood under the skin, amount, cough producing mucus, heavier menstrual periods, ringing in the ears, urge to vomit or vomiting, blurred vision, frequent urge to urinate bleeding gums, increased thirst, or feet, confusion, sore throat, headache, burning while urinating, bloody nose, hearing loss, dilated neck veins
