How Cegava Injection works

Cegava 1000 mg/500 mg Injection is a combination of two medicines: Cefoperazone and Sulbactam. Cefoperazone is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Cefoperazone against bacteria.

CAUTION
Cegava 1000 mg/500 mg Injection may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heartbeat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure with alcohol (Disulfiram reactions).
Pregnancy

Q. Can the use of Cegava cause nausea and vomiting?
Yes, the use of Cegava can cause nausea and vomiting. In case, you experience nausea while taking this medicine, take it with milk, food or with antacids. Avoid taking fatty or fried foods. If you start to experience vomiting, drink plenty of water or other fluids. Try small frequent sips of the liquid. Talk to your doctor if you have persistent vomiting and signs of dehydration like dark colored and strong-smelling urine and a low frequency of urination. Do not take any other medicines without speaking to a doctor.
Q. Can the use of Cegava cause diarrhea?
Yes, the use of Cegava can cause diarrhea. Antibiotics can kill good, or helpful, bacteria in your stoamch or intestine and cause diarrhea. In case, you experience diarrhea, drink plenty of water or other fluids. Talk to your doctor if you have persistent diarrhea and any signs of dehydration like less urination with dark coloured and strong-smelling urine. Do not take any other medicines without consulting a doctor.
Q. Can I stop taking Cegava when my symptoms are relieved?
No, do not stop taking Cegava and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared.
