Artesunate is used to treat chloroquine resistant malaria and complicated malaria like cerebral malaria.

How it works

Artesunate belongs to class of medications called anti-malarial. It acts by producing free radicals which kills the malarial parasite (Plasmodium).

Lumefantrine is used in combination with artemether in the treatment of malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum.

How it works

Lumefantrine is an antimalarial drug which accumulates within the malaria parasite and inhibits the breakdown of hemoglobin. It forms a toxic complex with heme (part of hemoglobin) in the parasite, and also damages the parasite cell membrane, thereby killing it.
