Albutamol Syrup

Prescription Required

Product introduction

Albutamol Syrup is used for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (a lung disorder in which the flow of air to the lungs is blocked). It helps in relaxing the muscles of the air passages and making it easier to breathe. It relieves coughing, wheezing and feeling short of breath.

Albutamol Syrup is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your healthcare team know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine.

The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, bloating, stomach discomfort, diarrhea, headache, sweating, skin rash, tremor, muscle cramps, restlessness, and increased heart rate. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are at all concerned about any of these side effects.

Before taking it, you should tell your doctor if you have any kidney or liver diseases so that your doctor can prescribe a suitable dose for you. You should also tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Benefits of Albutamol Syrup

In Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) is a group of lung diseases that cause breathing difficulties. COPD is caused by swelling of the airways that carry air in and out of the lungs. Albutamol Syrup relaxes the muscles of these airways and widens it. It also loosens mucus and helps you to cough it out. This makes you breathe easy and gives relief from symptoms such as tightness in your chest, shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing. Avoid smoking and minimise your exposure to pollution, dust and fumes. Along with that, a little exercise each day can help you stay strong. Talk to your doctor about how much exercise is good for you.

Quick tips

  • You have been prescribed Albutamol Syrup for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
  • It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden breathing problems. Always keep a fast-acting (rescue) inhaler with you.
  • If at any time your breathing gets worse or you notice muscle twitching or weakness, or an irregular heartbeat, please contact your doctor or nurse for advice straightaway.
  • Inform your doctor if you have heart problems, high blood pressure, or diabetes.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you have used in the past 14 days, especially water pills, anti-depressant, or medicines for heart problems.
  • Do not smoke. Smoking causes irritation and damage to the lungs and will make your condition worse.
