Adrosal 10mg Injection

Overview

Introduction

Adrosal 10mg Injection is used in the treatment of various types of cancers of blood, breast, lung, ovaries and soft tissues. It can be used on its own, or sometimes given together with certain other medicines as part of combination chemotherapy.

It is given as a drip or infusion vein with extreme caution by a qualified medical professional. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised. Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits but do not stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to. It makes contraceptive pills less effective, so it advised to both male and female to use reliable contraception during the treatment.

The most common side effects of this medicine include vomiting, allergic reaction, nausea, mouth sore, and hair loss.  If these bother you or appear serious, let your doctor know. There may be ways of reducing or preventing them. It is known to reduce the number of blood cells in your blood thereby, increasing the susceptibility to infections. Infections can sometimes be life threatening. Regular blood tests are required to monitor your blood cells along with kidney, liver and heart function during treatment with this medicine.

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have severe liver or heart related problems, or if you are pregnant, or breastfeeding.  Your doctor should also know about all other medicines you are taking as many of these may make this medicine less effective or change the way it works.

How to cope with side effects?

The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.

  • Coping with Vomiting
You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.
  • Coping with Allergic reaction
Avoid touching other areas of your body, especially your face. Wash the affected area with water. Put a cold compress such as an ice pack or wet washcloth on the itchy area in case of a mild reaction. Using moisturizing creams may also bring relief. Speak to your doctor if the itchiness or rash gets worse or does not go away. Get medical help right away if you see signs of severe allergic reactions such as difficulty breathing, swelling of face or throat, sudden weakness with dizziness and restlessness.
  • Coping with Nausea
You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop from feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.
  • Coping with Mouth sore
Avoiding things that irritate your ulcer will help speed up the healing process, reduce pain, and reduce its chances of coming back. Keep your mouth hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids and clean by rinsing it regularly with warm and slightly salted water. Eat softer foods and drink cold drinks through a straw. Try to avoid foods that are very hot, spicy, sour (acidic) or salty and rough, crunchy foods like potato chips or toast. Do not use chewing gum and do not smoke or drink alcohol. Keep your mouth clean using a soft-bristled toothbrush and get regular dental check-ups. Consult your doctor if your condition does not improve or lasts more than a few days.
  • Coping with Hair loss
Use gentle hair products such as baby shampoo. Use a soft brush and comb gently. Avoid using hairdryers, curling tongs or hair straighteners and pat your hair dry after washing. Do not color your hair. Protect your scalp by covering your head in the sun. It is necessary to not take the stress and eat a balanced, nutritious diet as it is vital for the health of your hair.
  • Coping with Stomach pain
Try to get plenty of rest and relax. Putting a heat pad or covered hot water bottle on your stomach may relieve the stomach pain. It may help if you eat and drink slowly and have smaller and more frequent meals. Reduce your intake of coffee, tea and alcohol as these can make the pain worse. If you are in a lot of pain, speak to your doctor about possible medication. Your doctor may be able to prescribe some over-the-counter medicines to help reduce the pain.
  • Coping with Arrhythmia (irregular heartbeats)
Changes to your heart rhythm can be treated with a variety of medicines. You should ask your doctor whether you need medication or not. You can also try to prevent arrhythmias by limiting the amount of alcohol you drink and quitting smoking. Cut down the amount of coffee, tea or cola you drink. Lose weight if you need to. In general, keeping active, eating a healthy well-balanced diet, and having your blood pressure and cholesterol level under control is good for any heart condition. Your doctor will probably want you to get follow-up tests while taking this medicine and advise you accordingly.
