Introduction of Adenocor Injection

Adenocor 6 mg Injection is a medicine used to treat life-threatening arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm). It restores normal heart rhythm by blocking abnormal electrical signals in the heart. It is rapidly injected into a vein, under the supervision of a doctor. Continuous monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate is done while using this medicine. Being a very short-acting medicine, it is not suitable for prevention in patients of recurrent arrhythmia. This medicine is also used to carry out diagnostic stress tests of the heart. Side effects include nausea, slow heart rate, headache, and dizziness may be seen in some patients.

Pregnancy
WEIGH RISKS VS BENEFITS
Adenocor 6 mg Injection may be unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.
Lactation
Adenocor 6 mg Injection is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving
Not relevant, as Adenocor 6 mg Injection is intended for use in hospitalised patients.
Kidney
SAFE
Adenocor 6 mg Injection is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Adenocor 6 mg Injection is recommended.
Liver
Adenocor 6 mg Injection is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Adenocor 6 mg Injection may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.

Q. Is adenosine a hormone/an amino acid/nucleotides/beta blocker/calcium channel blocker?

Adenosine belongs to class of drugs called nucleosides. It acts by restoring the heart rhythm. It also relaxes blood vessels supplying the heart and increases blood flow, thereby relieving abnormal electrical activity due to compromised blood flow to heart

Q. Is Adenocor a vasopressor/does Adenocor cause vasodilation/ vasoconstriction/ bronchoconstriction?

Adenocor causes vasodilatation which may result in headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, tachycardia and flushing. It also causes bronchoconstriction resulting in breathlessness and chest discomfort

Q. Does Adenocor makes you sleepy?

No. Adenocor has no effect on sleep

Q. Does Adenocor cause atrial fibrillation?

Yes, Adenocor can cause various types of disturbances in heart rhythm; atrial fibrillation is one of them.
