It can be taken with or without food, but it is better to take Acivir 3% w/v eye ointment at a fixed time.

Acyclovir Topical(3% w/v)


Acivir 3% w/v eye ointment is used to treat cold sores (fluid filled blister on and around the lips) and infections of the skin, eye and genitals caused by herpes simplex and herpes zoster virus. It can also be used to treat chickenpox caused by varicella-zoster virus. 

How it works

Acivir 3% w/v eye ointment belongs to the class of medications called as antivirals. It prevents the synthesis of viral DNA and thereby slows down the growth and spread of the virus.

  • Wash your hands before and after using acyclovir cream. Wash and dry the affected area before applying the cream/ointment. 
  • Avoid direct contact of cream with your eyes. In case of direct contact, wash your eyes with water and seek immediate medical attention.
  • Inform your doctor before using acyclovir topical, if you have conditions that can make your immune system weak such as HIV, AIDS or bone marrow transplantation.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
