Acenomac 1 Tablet


Overview

Introduction

Acenomac 1 Tablet is an oral anticoagulant which helps to prevent formation of harmful blood clots in the legs, lungs, brain and heart. It is used for deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and stroke prevention.

Acenomac 1 Tablet should be taken as advised by the doctor. You may take it with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time. This medicine should not be stopped abruptly without consulting the doctor. You should take this medicine regularly to get the most benefit, even if you feel fine. It is preventing future harm.

Use of this medicine may increase your risk of bleeding. Let your doctor know immediately if you see pinpoint rash or blood in your vomits, urine, or stool. If you are going under any surgery or dental treatment then you may need to stop this medicine for some time but only after consulting with your doctor.

Before taking it, you must inform the doctor if you are suffering from any kidney or liver disease. Also, let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and about all the other medications that you are taking regularly.

How to use Acenomac Tablet

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Acenomac 1 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Acenomac Tablet works

Acenomac 1 Tablet is an oral anticoagulant. It acts by preventing the formation of harmful blood clots. Although it does not dissolve the existing blood clots, it inhibits them from growing larger and causing serious problems.

Acenomac 1 Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Driving

Acenomac 1 Tablet does not usually affect your ability to drive.
Kidney
CAUTION
Acenomac 1 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Acenomac 1 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Acenomac 1 Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease.
Liver
CAUTION
Acenomac 1 Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Acenomac 1 Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Acenomac 1 Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.

What if you forget to take Acenomac Tablet?

If you miss a dose of Acenomac 1 Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

  • Acenomac 1 Tablet increases your risk of bleeding. Be careful while shaving, cutting fingernails or toenails, using sharp objects or engaging in contact sports (e.g. football, wrestling).

Q. How long do I need to take Acenomac?

You should continue taking Acenomac for as long as recommended by your doctor. Depending upon the condition you are being treated for, you may have to take it for several months or years or maybe for the rest of your life.

Q. What should I avoid while taking Acenomac?

You should avoid alcohol while taking Acenomac as alcohol may interfere with working of Acenomac. In addition to that, avoid cranberry juice or other cranberry products as there may be a risk of enhanced blood thinning. Avoid breastfeeding or getting pregnant as it may harm your child.

Q. Do I need to stop Acenomac if I have to undergo a surgery?

Depending on the type of surgery that is to be performed, your doctor will tell you whether to continue or stop Acenomac. It will be decided by your doctor after weighing the risks and benefits of discontinuing Acenomac.

Q. Is Acenomac same as warfarin?

Both Acenomac and warfarin are blood thinners, but they have some differences. Warfarin has a more stable blood thinning effect.

Q. How long does it take for Acenomac to start working?

It takes a little longer for Acenomac to start working. On an average, it may take 3-4 days for Acenomac to show its blood-thinning effect. For these 3-4 days, heparin may be used and then discontinued.

Q. What if I forget to take a dose?

If you forget to take a dose of Acenomac, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is time for your next dose then skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose and continue your normal schedule. Keep a diary or set a reminder, so that you do not forget it often.

Q. What monitoring is required while taking Acenomac?

The bleeding times should be carefully monitored from 2nd or 3rd dose of Acenomac and till the clotting status is stabilized. Thereafter, the bleeding time can be monitored monthly. This frequency may be more in elderly.
