Individuals with diabetes often have atherogenic dyslipidemia, i.e. they have coexistence of increased level of fasting triglyceride (bad cholesterol) and decreased HDL (good cholesterol) level. Diabetes with cholesterol markedly increases cardiovascular disease risk. Controlling your blood sugar and cholesterol can go a long way in lowering the risk.
