As a result, the abilities controlled by that area of the brain such as memory and muscle control are lost.<\/p>\n<p>It not treated on time; it can cause long term complications like paralysis, loss of bowel and bladder control, pain in hands and feet.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>RISK FACTORS<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Controllable Risk Factors<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Up to 50 % strokes are preventable by managing these risk factors: High blood pressure, heart diseases, uncontrolled diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, excessive alcohol intake, obesity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Uncontrollable Risk Factors<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Age (&gt;65), Gender (Men have more strokes, women have deadlier strokes), Family history<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>SYMPTOMS<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Confusion, trouble speaking and understanding<\/li>\n<li>Headache, altered consciousness\/ vomiting<\/li>\n<li>Numbness of the face, arm or leg, particularly on one side of the body<\/li>\n<li>Trouble seeing walking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>DIAGNOSIS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stroke should be treated within treated <strong>3 hours<\/strong> of the symptoms first appearing.<\/p>\n<p>If you think someone may be having a stroke use the <strong>F.A.S.T<\/strong> test.<\/p>\n<p><strong>F<\/strong>ace \u2013 Check their face.
