They act either by killing bacteria or by stopping bacterial growth and multiplication. They are not effective in viral infections.<\/p>\n<h2>What is antibiotic resistance?<\/h2>\n<p>Antibiotic resistance is when an antibiotic becomes ineffective in killing or stopping the growth of the bacteria. Overuse and misuse of antibiotics are the leading causes of antibiotic resistance.<\/p>\n<h2>How can antibiotic resistance be reduced?<\/h2>\n<p>&#8211; Do not buy antibiotics without prescription<br \/>\n&#8211; Do not self-medicate with antibiotics.
