\"Dengue\"<\/a><\/p>\n

If you have been diagnosed with dengue or if you have an undiagnosed high grade fever with body aches do not take Aspirin, Ibuprofen or any other painkiller<\/strong>. Taking these medicines can reduce platelet counts, which can be very dangerous for dengue patients as their platelet counts are already decreased by the illness<\/p>\n

SPREAD:<\/h4>\n
    \n
  • Dengue is spread by Aedes mosquito<\/strong> that breeds in stagnant water<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Aedes mosquitoes are identified by typical black and white markings<\/strong> on their body and legs<\/li>\n
  • Aedes mosquitos mostly bite on the arms and legs <\/strong><\/li>\n
  • They bite up to three times in a day and only during the daytime<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:<\/h4>\n

    Dengue is characterized by high grade fever<\/strong> (upto 106\u00b0F) lasting 2-7 days with two or more <\/strong>of the following signs and symptoms:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Headaches<\/li>\n
    • Muscle, bone and joint pain<\/li>\n
    • Pain behind eyes<\/li>\n
    • Widespread rash<\/li>\n
    • Nausea and vomiting<\/li>\n
    • Minor bleeding from gums or nose<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      THINGS TO REMEMBER:<\/h4>\n
        \n
      • Most people recover within a week or so. In some, symptoms worsen and can become life-threatening<\/li>\n
      • The complications associated with Dengue fever usually appear between the 3rd<\/sup> to 5th<\/sup><\/strong> day of illness<\/li>\n
      • Be watchful and alert<\/strong> after the fever comes down<\/li>\n
      • Keep the body temperature below 102\u00b0F<\/strong><\/li>\n
      • Take paracetamol<\/strong> for fever as advised by the doctor<\/li>\n
      • Take large amounts of fluids<\/strong> (3-4 liters\/day) in the form of water, soup, milk, juice<\/li>\n
