The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) safety review has recently issued warnings for a commonly used antipsychotic medicine called Olanzapine<\/strong>. If you or anyone in your family is taking this medication, please read the drug alert carefully.<\/p>\n

What Is The Warning?<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the warning, the\u00a0<\/strong>antipsychotic medicine Olanzapine can cause a rare but serious skin reaction that can progress to affect other parts of the body. Symptoms include:a fever with a rash,\u00a0swollen lymph glands and\u00a0swelling in the face.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>What is Olanzapine? (Common Brand Names: Oleanz, Olimelt, Oliza)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic medicine used to\u00a0<\/strong>treat various psychiatric disorders like\u00a0schizophrenia and bipolar disorder<\/strong>. For bipolar disorder, olanzapine can be used alone or in combination with other drugs.<\/p>\n

Olanzapine works by reducing the frequency of hallucinations and other psychotic symptoms such as disorganized thinking. Olanzapine can also decrease the mania of bipolar disorder.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>What Should The Patients Taking This Medicine Do?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Patients should \u00a0not stop taking olanzapine or change your dose without first talking to their doctor.<\/p>\n

Patients\u00a0taking olanzapine should immediately consult the doctor if they develop the following symptoms:<\/p>\n

-a fever with a rash<\/p>\n

-swollen lymph glands<\/p>\n

-swelling in the face<\/p>\n
