On July 28th learn about the habits & tools you can use like vaccination, hygiene, and safe practices, to protect yourself & the people you care about from viral hepatitis.

Hepatitis A & B both are vaccine preventable. The hepatitis B vaccination provides 95-98% protection; & hepatitis A is also highly effective. Adults who may not have received the childhood dose should also be vaccinated.

Wash your hands thoroughly before you eat, & after using the bathroom. If you are travelling or eating in high-risk areas, do not eat raw fruits or unpeeled fruit, do not drink contaminated water, and do not eat undercooked food.

Never share a needle with someone, or a razor, or toothbrush, or personal hygiene items. Ensure all equipment is sterile with respect to tattoos, piercings, or medical injections.

Use condoms to reduce risk of hepatitis B, C, and D acquisition. Get tested, and if needed vaccinated; especially if you have multiple or new sexual partners.

High-risk groups, pregnant women, healthcare professionals, dialysis patients, blood transfusion recipients, or those who are born in regions with high prevalence should regularly test for hepatitis B & C.

Vaccination (against HAV & HBV), clean habits with no risk of exposure to contaminated food are essential. Be encouraged to see your physician for the opportunity for early detection, & for the options available for proactive protection are critical.
