When it comes to weight loss, exercise is not enough. Weight loss has to do with calorie balance, metabolism, sleep, hormones and lifestyle movement — not just going to the gym.

After a workout, your appetite may spike. While that is completely normal, eating too much — even healthy food — can negate your food burned in your workout. Track your food intake and aim for a mild caloric deficit.

Spending one hour working out in the gym isn’t going to do much of anything to improve body composition if you sit for the rest of the day! As Dr. Rajeev Sharma says, “Walking 10,000–12,000 steps a day and getting up every 55 minutes for 5 minutes keeps metabolism active.”

When you perform the same motion repeated and to the same intensity your body adapts. Alternate strength training, HIIT, and cardio to keep your body guessing and a volatile metabolism.

Foods with high sugar sources like drinks and smoothies, along with ‘healthy’ snacks will sabotage fat loss. Stick to water, green tea, or black coffee to maintain a calorie deficit and keep energized.
