Over the past few weeks, doctors in certain parts of India, like Bengaluru, Mumbai, have noticed a big increase in fever & respiratory infections among infants and school-aged kids. Let's know why?

Many factors, like allergens, weather changes, the spread of viruses like human metapneumovirus (HMPV) and influenza, and children coming in close contact at schools.

Colds, coughs, fever, occasional wheezing, or difficulty in breathing were seen. Vomiting, along with respiratory symptoms, was also seen in some cases.

Many kids with severe symptoms, like breathing problems, or those who have low oxygen levels, needed hospital care.

Infants (under 1 year), toddlers, and school-going children are most affected. Some children who are born preterm seem to be more vulnerable.

- Avoid sudden temperature swings. - Ensure good hand hygiene. - Keep kids home if they show symptoms.

If symptoms last more than 2-3 days and breathing becomes difficult, or there is a persistently high fever, undergo medical evaluation.
