Feeling tired and sleepy all the time, even after a well-rested night? This might be more than mere laziness. Here's how depression can drain your physical and mental energy.

When you're depressed, you may have a decreased appetite, skip meals, or have an excessive craving for sugary foods with little nutritional value.

Depression can disrupt the balance of brain chemicals such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, affecting energy levels, sleep quality, and motivation. This results in the feeling of mental and physical fatigue.

Depression is associated with insomnia, oversleeping, and poor sleep quality. Because of this, you could wake up feeling exhausted and totally unrested even after eight hours.
