Swimming feels refreshing—but is it always safe? A few simple mistakes can turn fun into trouble. Read and follow these safety tips.

Avoid peak afternoon sun. Early mornings or evenings are better—less heat, less tanning.

Pick the Right Time

You may not feel sweaty in water, but your body still loses fluids. Drink water before and after to stay hydrated all day.

Apply waterproof sunscreen, even if you are in the pool. Reapply if you stay longer than 2 to 3 hours.

Rinse before entering the pool to keep it clean. Shower after to remove chlorine and prevent skin dryness or irritation.

Wear goggles to avoid redness or irritation, and apply a little coconut oil or wear a swim cap to protect hair from chlorine damage.
