You might be surprised, but not every veggie belongs in the fridge. In fact, keeping some of them cold can actually ruin their flavor or texture. Here are 6 vegetables you’re better off storing outside the fridge:

They lose their juicy flavor and turn mealy when chilled. Keep them on the counter.

Cold temperatures turn their starch into sugar, which alters the taste. A cool, dark cupboard is best.

The fridge makes them soft and moldy. Store them in a dry, airy location (but not near potatoes).

It sprouts and gets rubbery in the fridge. Keep it in a basket or bowl on the counter.
