Sourdough is everywhere right now. From cafes to home kitchens, but is it actually healthier or just trending?

Sourdough isn’t made like regular bread. Made using a slow and natural fermentation (no added yeast). That's why it tastes slightly tangy.

Thanks to prebiotic compounds formed during fermentation, it feels lighter on the stomach and easier to digest for most people, especially when compared to white bread.

Sourdough may not spike sugar as quickly as regular white bread, but it still contains carbs.

Fermentation may help your body absorb minerals better, like iron, magnesium, and zinc. So you may get a bit more from the same flour, but the difference is not huge.

Store-bought versions can be misleading. Some breads just copy the taste without the real fermentation benefits.

Some people love it for the flavour, while some don't enjoy it at all, so preference matters. Health benefits are just a bonus, but it still contains gluten, so it is not suitable for people with gluten issues.

If you enjoy it, you can switch, as it may be a slightly better bread choice, but it's not a must to have in your daily diet.
