RO vs. UV vs. UF: Which water purifier is best for you?

             Written by: Mantasha

Choosing the right water purifier depends on your water quality. Let’s break down the difference between RO, UV, and UF.

Best for areas with hard or salty water. It removes dissolved salts, heavy metals, and impurities using a semi-permeable membrane. Needs electricity and water wastage is higher.

RO (Reverse Osmosis)

Best for low TDS (Total Dissolved Solids)  water. It uses UV light to kill bacteria and viruses but does not remove salts or chemicals. Needs electricity, no water wastage.

UV (Ultraviolet Purifier)

Ideal for areas with low TDS. It removes bacteria, dirt, and cysts but cannot remove dissolved salts or heavy metals. It works without electricity, so even during a power cut, it continues to provide clean water. Plus, it doesn’t waste water during purification

UF (Ultrafiltration)

- If your water has high TDS: Go for RO - If water is microbiologically unsafe but low TDS: UV works - If water is clean but you want extra safety: UF is enough

Which One to Choose?

Modern purifiers often combine RO+UV+UF for complete protection from microbes, chemicals, and salts. Choose based on your local water quality.

Get a TDS test done before buying a purifier. It helps you choose the right type for safe, healthy drinking water.

Check Your Water First
